This mod will give you a bit more compression with added sustain, this mod is fairly simple to install and remove. You will need to get 2 diodes for this mod, the part # 1n4148 or 1n914 will work well (1n4003 can be used for more aggressive sounds). Figure 1 shows the stock unit, this mod will consist of soldering the two diodes across the outer legs of the 1m pot (Drive pot). Start by twisting two diodes together as shown in figure 2, note that the bands on the diodes must be facing opposite directions. Next tin the diode by running a light flow of solder over the leads you have twisted, you can see this in figure 3. Now carefully form the diode pair into a half circle shape and solder each end of the diode pair to the outside legs of the drive pot (figure 4 at bottom of page).
For asymmetric clipping you could use just one diode, the direction this diode
faces does not matter, just solder it across the outside legs of the drive
pot, you can also use two diodes (bands facing opposite) of different types
for other types of symmetry, these mods will have greater intermodulation
distortion (less clarity for chords) but adds some interesting harmonics and
some say "tube like clipping". Types of diodes for asymmetric clipping
are 1n34a, 1n4148, 1n4003 and various LEDs...you can experiment and have some
fun with this one
