Changing
the op-amp
Swapping
the op-amp is the simplest mod, no solder is required, no electronic skills.
Here are a few of our favorite op-amps and each shows proper orientation. The
Burr Brown OPA2604 is very clear with extended highs and greater high voltage
performance. The JRC4559D can lend a thicker quality to some ears. You can use
any standard pinout dual op-amp in the Direct Drive. All Direct Drives have
socket op-amps at birth, making this a simple operation The stock chip is a
JRC4558D. A op-amp puller can be purchased at radio Shack or you can use you
fingernails if you are very carefull not to bend the pins. Notice the orientation
dots on the upper left hand sid eof the JRC chips, the Burr Brown has a marker
in the upper center, make sure these marks are facing the proper direction...thats
all!
