Open
air mod
Here
is the open air mod for the Direct Drive, you will need to run to Radio Shack
or order from a electronics supplier like www.mouser.com to get parts to complete
this simple mod.
We
are going to add a capacitor for this mod (yup, one part!) you can choose the
value depending on how much highs you want to hear. I recommend a value between
.02 and .22, I like about .047 best. Now to the mod, look at figure 1, this
is an unmodified unit (stock) this is your start point, figure 2 shows an outline
of where we are going to add the capacitor. Figure three shows the capicitor
in place. If you use a tantalum or other polar type cap, be sure the + is facing
the left. a film cap sounds best to me but will require a slight bend in the
leads to make it fit.(see figure 4), Figure 5 shows a .047 cap in place. I strongly
recommend using a pointed tip soldering iron, you will be working very close
to plastic components that could melt if your iron should come too close.
