What are the factory settings for the internal trimpots in the Burn Unit EQ?
Just picked one up secondhand & so far I'm loving it; seems to sit nicely in between my LTDs & Direct Drive. Being a secondhand unit I'm not sure if the internal trimpots have been altered or not, so I thought it might be an idea to try out the default settings before I do any more fine tuning.

There are really no factory EQ setting on equalizers, you should set them to what sounds best for your gear, update your equipment list to include your guitar and amp as per the forum rules and I'll sort out some suggestions.

The setup can change quite a bit depending on what I'm doing. There'll doubtless be slight changes between the different setups, which is why I'm curious if there's a suggested starting point for the trim pots I can work from.
Amp wise, most of the time it's either an AC-30 or a Carvin X-60B for live work, & a Vibrochamp or Rex AG-6 (tweed style amp) for recording (Having said that, for small live gigs I'll sometimes go direct, using a Boogie V-Twin as a preamp). Guitars I most commonly use are Strats & Teles.

I would start with the presence at 10 o clock, bass at 2 o clock and midrange about 11:30 o clock, that will keep the highs in check and balance the low mids without getting sloppy, but nothing beats being there and turning the knobs while you play.

I've done about 4 gigs with the Burn Unit now, & I reckon you hit the nail on the head with those settings David! I brought the presence control up just a whisker with the Carvin, but I didn't have to touch the internal controls at all with the AC-30 & the smaller Amps. Good shot!

This is a fantastic pedal; couldn't have been happier if I'd had an OD custom made for me!! It takes over from where the LTDs leave off, & transitions nicely up to the Direct Drive, which is exactly what I was hoping for. Still experimenting with the dynamics control; I start thinking I've settled on a setting for it, & then I try something else & it sounds just as great!! There's not a bad sound in the thing!


I've been thinking about substituting the LTDs with a Half Gainer (to compact the pedalboard a bit), & this has definitely pushed me towards it a bit more. I can see the HG complementing the BU nicely.

I have a similar question: I recently switched from running a Blackface Concert to a Silverface Deluxe Reverb and found that my current settings for the Barber Burn unit don't play nice with the amp. I'm wondering where a good starting point for the internal trimpots would be for the SFDR. I play in a wedding band which covers everything from Gershwin to Gaga, and I typically run the amp just below where it breaks up. With the concert, I used channel 1 of the BU as a clean boost and channel 2 of the BU with the gain dimed. I had the dynamics turned way down to a little below 9 and loved the sound of both channels with the BF concert. The SFDR has been converted to BF specs and has had a recent cap job and retube - sounds great with just a cable. I'm a jazz guy so I don't always understand the inner workings of fx & how to shape good tone for different amps. Any help would be much appreciated.

Which channel of the Deluxe are you using? Amp settings?

Normal Channel - although I had my tech mod it so that reverb is on both channels. Here are my starting points for settings (every room is different tho)
Vol - 6 Treble - 6 Bass - 3 Reverb - 2
