Small Fry - how does it work in front of a dirty amp?

Postby RockNote » Sat Feb 26, 2011 4:15 am

This demo has really impressed me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcCSd0CauEA But note that he records directly, i.e. the Small Fry does not go into a real amp.

I wonder how the Small Fry would behave if it were placed in front of a dirty amp, say in place of the Half Gainer in this vid?:

I notice that the LTDs, Half Gainer, Direct Drive are celebrated rather more often than the Small Fry. Is this because smooth and heavy saturation has become a thing of the past (1980s)?

The reason why I am asking these questions is of course in order to decise whether of not the Small Fry is just the ticket for me.

Great. I use it in front of a Marshall 1962, or a Marshall Class5, or a Vox AC15cc. All controls on those amps are set to 12 oclock (except 8.30am for bass on the Marshalls). And I set all the controls on the Small Fry to about 12 o'clock (2pm on the burn when using a single coil) It works great with all of those amps. I mean really great. I also have the Tone Press, the compressor that doesn't sound like one.

The Small Fry is awesome! I use it in the studio with a vibro champ xd.
From clean to heavy it's a very versatile pedal imo.
