Dirty Bomb Serial Number

Postby thirstypirate » Mon Nov 02, 2015 7:12 pm

Hello! I have been a Barber fan for quite a while and was wondering what the serial number of my Dirty Bomb tells me about it. I seem to remember ordering it very early on and none of my other pedals have Mr. Barber's autograph. Thanks for any info you may provide.

The serial numbers are meant to tell me who made the pedal, the date, and which number pedal it was of the day for that particular builder. Rick Sellman built your pedal (RIP Rick), it was one of the very few Dirty Bombs he ever made, as he asked not to have to build them anymore after the first week of production. December 19th 2008 and the third pedal he built that day. The light tan PCB without silk screen layer shows that this was a proto PCB which we sometimes use during initial production. I signed the first 100 because it was the start of DB production.

Thank you for the thorough response, David. I really appreciate it. I guess my memory served me correctly that I preordered the Dirty Bomb or ordered very early on in the production. May I ask why Rick Sellman did not want to make the Dirty Bomb?

Rick felt there were other pedals he could build faster, and for higher pay. He also had a couple of dead pedals in his first run, so frustration played a part. One of the other builders took on the DB and was building 30- 40 a week. It was right after the US markets crashed and we were happy to have jobs, and a pedal that was selling very fast at $99, but there was no money to be made, only enough to underpay the builder, and keep us from tanking.

I have another Dirty Bomb question. What are the different toggle settings? My manual doesn't mention it.
