Dual Discrete at 18v?

Postby Jules-RM » Sat Sep 19, 2009 6:10 pm

I was thinking of giving it a try, I just wanted to verify that it's doable. I know all your other drives can handle it, but I just want to be 100% sure before I try.

My Dual Discrete is a DD SS/LTD SR.

No problem, just remember to use negative tip (center). :)

Finally had time to try it out at 18v today. Sort of mixed results. I like the DDSS more at 18v, it's a bit cleaner and more focused. The gain knob is more usable all the way up to max, before I stopped around 2:30 because it was getting to fizzy.

While the LTD SR doesn't sound bad at 18v, I think I prefer it at 9v - but only slightly. It seems to lose a little of what I like about the LTD SR. I will keep it running at 18v for now.

Can you try 12, 14, or 16 volts? There is a happy compromise in there somewhere.

I've considered using the sag feature on my PP2. I might toy around with it when I have more time this week.

The DDSS is such an improvement at 18v, I might just live with it.
