I'm still thinking which Direct Drive to get...either the Super Sport or the normal Direct Drive. I want the it to sound saturated even with the gain turned down.

Talk me into getting one. :D

I like the SS... Been using it for a long time.
but I like both for that Direct Drive tone. I just like all the control I get inside the SS.

In the studio I can get lots of sounds from it.
It's why it's a big pick when guys want a Dual Discrete..SS with something else.
G&L Legacy Special, PRS SE soapbar II, beefed up PV Classic50 4X10, Barber pedals, Budda Wah , Line6 green/blue F/X.
Then a bunch of studio stuff.

If Your gonna own a Barber, It's gotta be a DD. Or, if I could only have one(desert island pedal), It would be the DD/mod or DDSS. Not that it would sound like alot of pedals. I don't like TS pedals, I don't like fuzz pedals. The DD just sounds like a cranked vintage amp.
There's plenty of clips of em (DDSS) in the sounds thread.

I don't like TS and fuzz pedals too. I guess the DD will work for me. I'll check out the sound clips thread. Thanks a bunch!

So if I understand it correctly, the DDSS can get the sounds of a DD but not the other way around?

The SS has more internal control then a DD. It has Note shape, Bass, Mids, Pres, and Harmonics control.

I keep trying to find something else to unseat the SS from my board, and everything fails.

I wish it had a TINY bit more gain, but live that doesn't really matter much.

The "gain switch" on the MOD PCB adds "a tiny bit more gain". :)

Is there any difference in the old DDSS and the new one (other than the racing stripe)?

did you read my post above about the internal controls? Unless you don't know what's in an old one.
