here's a collaboration i did with 'xenophile', of a classic Deep Purple tune.

we did this for fun.

kudos to Xenophile, for all the keyboard work and drum programming.

I did all the Vox, Guitars and Bass.

The bass guitar is run into a Barber DDSS, with a healthy grind put on it. (Carvin LB70>>DDSS>>Mesa Mark2b guitar head>>Palmer PDI-09>>A Designs Audio MP-1 mic pre>>dbx comp>>soundcard)

this also helped roll off some of the bottom end on the bass, so it more closely matched the original sound

the rhythm guitar was put thru the Tone Press, being used as a Clean Boost with maxed out volume. (custom strat>>TP>>Mesa Mark2b guitar head@dirty channel set 'clean'>>Palmer PDI-09>>A Designs Audio MP-1 mic pre>>dbx comp>>soundcard)

The Harmony solo guitar part, was run thru the DDSS on the lead channel set for typical rock crunch rhythm (custom strat>>DDSS>>Mesa Mark2b guitar head@dirty channel set 'crunch'>>Palmer PDI-09>>A Designs Audio MP-1 mic pre>>dbx comp>>soundcard)

The DDSS works for that tune! Ronni used one on his remake too!

Thanks Gonzo!

hey guys, thanks for listening to this...
i'd forgotten i had even posted it!!!

LOL

David-
i heard ronni's remake, that's a good one.
the ddss, of course, i had backed way down, just to add 'oomph'
but i'm finding, i can use it on almost ANYTHING, and between all the controls, i can dial in anything short of savage.

thazy-
thanks man.
well, i just wanted to try to play it just like the machine head album version, even tho i had never learned that version before, i always played along with the live version.
in fact, it would have been easier for me to cover the made in japan version than this one..
this one required A LOT of restraint!

Jlagrassa
thanks, it was a fun project.

jbert-
i appreciate it!

hey ronni !

guess what, i checked that old link, and it was gone....
sorry if you didn't get to actually check it...

i actually re-recorded the rhythm guitars from the original version, and made them more edgy with a bit more drive (used the tone press as a clean boost)

here is a new upload of it, if you're interested.
it was a fun project, and i got to experiment with some unusual settings on my barber stuff just for this recording session.

uploaded at sound cloud, again...
