Big Fun 3 - My Mother The Czar

Postby rmyers » Fri Jan 31, 2014 3:56 pm

This nugget is from our first album on the Ropeadope label outta Philly. Heading up there in a couple weeks. This one was tracked live to 2" tape in the City Of Progress Studio in North Miami Beach. To capture our live sound in the studio and to work within our compositional framework (live 100% improvised, playing in a circle facing one another and quite loud, Hammond B3 and Leslie and synths, Guitar and noisebenders and traps) we hung a stereo pair over the center of the room, as well as miked up each bit-o-kit. Lots of bleed-through and but needed to sound loud without being stage loud....the Launch Pad was an essential part of the entire album. On this track, the LP and the first version (no labels) of the LTD were used. You really have to listen start to finish to "get" what we are doing as each piece is a journey, inspired by the early electric Miles Davis bands, Tony Williams Lifteime and (believe it or not) King Crimson.

Yep.

The Bandcamp link is for one track, but the whole album is there for free streaming, if you so desire. Available "Everywhere" zeros and ones are sold these daze...

I love the sound..... not sure I get the music.... but I certainly don't dislike it.
guitar sounds fab..... I just find the Hammond to be distractingly out of time at times....

the "Octavia" sounds fun......

Thanks for the thunks, MullyFx!

The organist is quirky, for sure. He is a punk/post-punk keyboardist with a lot of albums and solid film and cetera credits. He is currently involved in a different project and the drummer and I have played most recently as a duo (vibraphone and guitar, still loud, natch).

I may relocate to Philly this summer, so may need to reconstitute this whole sick thing soon. Looking forward to bringing on the Barber love in eastern Pennsylvania!
