This mod will enhance both the presence and bass frequencies to get a larger sound from your Direct Drive, this is an advanced mod and should only be attempted by skilled hobbyist and trained experienced techs. This mod has two parts that can be completed independently of each other for either greatly enhanced bass, enhanced presence or both! As always these mods are unsupported by phone or email and any mods you make to your Barber pedal are strictly at your own risk. We do offer mods at the shop that are supported.
The first part of this mod deals with enhanced the presence only, this part is actually very simple. You will need a resistor and a cap to complete this mod. The resistor should be a value between 470 ohm and 2.2k, the lowest value will give the strongest presence boost and the larger value will give just enough for an open presence boost, 1k would be splitting the difference. The cap value should be between .02uf and .082uf, .02 will be the higher presence frequency and mainly add a "air" about the sound and .082 will give a solid presence to the top of all guitar strings. I would recommend starting with .082uf and a 1.5k-2k resistor (whatever is available).
1. Lets start the mod, solder the resistor and cap together in series like fig 1,
2. Next use sand paper to prep the drive pot for soldering (fig 2) then heat the pot body and flow solder onto it to form a bead (fig 3)
3. Now solder the cap to the left leg of the drive pot and the resistor to the back of the pot (fig 4), you will also need to run a short wire from the back of the pot to the ground lug of the input jack ( fig 5,this is very important!), this completes the presence mod, you can vary the resistor and cap values to your taste...smaller resistors will give you MORE presence and smaller value resistors will give you less presence. Small value caps will only effect the highest frequencies while larger cap values will give and nice present "snap" to all the upper frequencies.
