Tone Pump or LTDSR

Postby jacobaf105 » Sun Apr 11, 2010 1:07 pm

I see that the tone pump is being discontinued, I like that it is a 2 ch OD pedal, but not sure how it is voiced compared to the LTDSR. I think I will try to get a tone pump before they are all gone, but does anyone use one or both for side by side comparion? thanks

The Tone Pump has medium gain (LTD SR low) and the Tone Pump has a throatier, thicker sound than the SR...The SR on the other hand is very clear, and can keep nearly identical EQ to the input source.

I have a Tone Pump II and a 1/2 Gainer (LTD SR flavor). I love them both for different purposes. The TP is the best thing since sliced bread for leads or a bit heavier rhythm. It really punches through with a fat, very musical clarity. The 1/2 Gainer is even clearer and more 'cutting' with less O.D. available. It is great for any kind of boost (clean or otherwise). It also works fabulous for a bridge pickup light O.D. or a clean(ish) neck p/u passage. It really rings clear! You can't go wrong either way; I say, get both and pitch the rest!

I pulled out my TP for the first time in 4 months and put it next to the SR on the board and to my surprise it actually is a very transparent contender. I believe it has less compression than the SR thus making it quite an open pedal. I'm scooping the mids and fattening it up with the note shape mod. It gets closer to my SR than my DD or SF does. And the red ch has a great cutting drive, just what I was looking for in my current situation. So maybe I'll mothball the SR for a spell. They are interchangeable in that respect IMHO. YMMV.
