Noisy Small Fry

Postby notyalcer » Sun May 03, 2009 12:00 pm

I love my Small Fry but it has always been a noisy pedal for me. My house is a noisy environment - old wiring and lots of computer gear - but this seems wrong. When I turn my Volume down on my strat even slightly, the noise level jumps, and I get AM radio reception. At full off on the volume the noise and radio goes away. I am powering it with a One Spot adapter typically, but it act the same when I use the battery.

Could there be something wrong with the pedal or is this normal?

That sounds like an input cable issue, if the noise is gone when the volume shorts the input to ground, then the Small Fry is simply amplifying any noise that arrives at input (normal for OD or comp). I would try a different brand/length of input cable. Have you tried another guitar to eliminate faulty guitar wiring?

Dave-

Sorry I have not replied in forever to this question and your suggestion. The short answer is that, yes, I have tried all permutations or guitars/cables/battery vs. ac adapter, and the pedal is noisy in all cases. I am wondering if I sent to to you you could trouble shoot further? First I want to do the testing again just to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Thanks!
