18 volts?

Postby tjk3052 » Tue Aug 25, 2009 6:35 pm

Can any of the Barber pedals work with a bigger power source, like 18v? If so, is there a big difference? I have an LTD SR now and a Small Fry on the way, but curious about other Barbers too.

All the drive pedals can be run at 18V. The Tone Press, Launch Pad and Barb E.Q. are 9V only.

How much of a difference does it make?

i love the difference in the sound of running my DDSS at 18v, versus 9v.

there's a certain clarity to it......
at 18v......

it's different.

i never use it at 9v anymore.

I thought the Burn Unit EQ could be run at 18v too? I've tried it, albeit for a brief moment, and it didn't seem to hurt it. Should I not be doing this?

Well the Burn Unit EQ is a drive pedal, so the 18V functionality applies.

Anybody powering their Barber OD pedals at an intermediate voltage (12~16V, for instance) and still noticing a difference in clarity/headroom? I don't have enough outputs on my PP2+ to add any double-volt (18V) cables, but I CAN flip switches #1-4 and get a regulated 12.3V. Any thoughts out there before I un-tangle my pedalboard to try this idea?

So it's safe to power the Dirty Bomb with an 18V source?

I am running my Direct Drive with mod board using the ACA setting on my PP+, and like it better than 9V or 18V. 9V is good, as I want a DD to give you some crunch and compression, so dialing up the voltage decreases the compression. For me, 18V lost too much compression, but 12V opened the pedal up just enough.
